The Chinese Scholarship Council, under the Government of China, invites Pakistani students and scholars to engage in study and research at Chinese universities. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan is the designated agency for these scholarships in the academic year 2024-25. The China Scholarship Council (CSC), overseen by the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China, is responsible for the registration and management of the Chinese Government scholarship program.

Financial Benefits

HEC will cover all costs and expenses during the scholarship by the Chinese Government. The full Chinese Scholarship includes:

  • Waiver of all tuition fees, administration fees, and application fees.
  • Free Accommodation in the University.
  • Monthly Stipend:
  • Bachelor’s Students: CNY 2,500 per Month.
  • CNY 3,000 per month for Master’s Students
  • CNY 3,500 per month for Doctoral Students

Note: The student will pay for his or her transportation. HEC will have no financial responsibility.

Scholarship Duration

  • Undergraduate students: 4-5 years (including preparatory years), Chinese Language (preparatory study year): 1-2 years
  • Master’s students: 2-3 years (major study), Chinese Language (preparatory study year): 1-2 years
  • Doctoral students: 3-4 years (major study), Chinese Language (preparatory study year): 1-2 years

Eligibility Criteria for HEC Chinese Government Scholarship

The eligibility criteria for Pakistani students to study under the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship are straightforward:

  • Applicant must be a citizen of Pakistan/AJK.
  • Must have completed 12 years of schooling (FA/ FSc or equivalent A-level) under the age of 25 years for undergraduate programs.
  • For master’s programs, you must have a Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
  • For doctorate programs, you must have a Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
  • Incomplete applications will not be entertained.
  • Students must apply online on the HEC Portal as well as in Chinese Universities.

Required Documents

All required documents should be uploaded online to apply for the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship. At this time, hard copies of the applications are not necessary. The documents include:

  • Copies of applicant and father’s/guardian’s CNIC.
  • Copy of applicant’s domicile.
  • Copy of HEC online submitted form.
  • All educational degrees and transcripts from matric to the last terminal degree attested by HEC & IBCC.
  • Chinese online application form.
  • Admission letter from a Chinese Government Scholarship University (optional).
  • A photo of the valid passport.
  • Two recommendation letters (original, for master’s and Ph.D. only).
  • Two recent passport-size photographs.
  • Two copies of the applicant’s statement of intent are required.
  • Health certificate Created by the Chinese quarantine authority.
  • Non-criminal record from the police department.
  • In the event of employment, selected candidates will be asked to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer.

Apply Procedure for the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship

Apply online on the HEC Portal as well as in Chinese Universities for the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship. The complete application procedure is provided by the Higher Education Commission:

  1. After registering and filling up your profile, apply online at [HEC Scholarship Portal] (http://scholarship.hec.gov.pk/). Select “Learning Opportunities Abroad.” After submission, get its printed copy signed by the applicant. The HEC online application portal closes on December 28, 2023 (11:59 PM Pakistan Time).
  2. Before applying, update your HEC profile with the latest email/cell number & updated information. Complete and submit your application as soon as possible to avoid system congestion close to the deadline.
  3. To check the deadline and submit an online application for the HAT test (Masters & PhD) and USAT test (Undergraduate), visit [HEC E-portal] (https://etc.hec.gov.pk/#/login). If you have a valid HAT or USAT score after January 01, 2023, submit the score on the HEC portal during application submission.
  4. Submit an online application at the CSC web portal at [Campus China] (http://www.campuschina.org/) or [CSC China] (http://www.csc.edu.cn) through program type A and agency number 5861. Download the submitted copy of the complete application form from the Chinese Scholarship Council portal, and print & retain a signed copy with yourself.
